Bill Nguyen

He looks young, almost not yet thirties. He is relaxed, well rounded. You feel his life is balanced and happy. He has that kind of happy smile.

As Bill started to talk, you realize that you are in the presence of a great personality. So unconventional, so hard working, and so determined to win. His last company onebox.com was sold for 850 million. From age 20 to now, he has gone through 6 startups. He got the term sheet in his first pitch to VC. He understands his strength and maximizes his strength. Working with excellent engineers, he built good technology products.

Nguyen says he wants to win more every day, no matter how good his company is doing. He wants to win big and leave the competitor far behind. This is the trait of an outstanding person.

He talks about persistence. He kept getting no’s until he get to yes. He simply do not stop trying. In one instance, in order to get an interview with Steve Balmer, he stayed in the lobby for 3 days until Balmer agreed to meet him.

He prepare diligently for his meeting. He does thorough homework on the person he wants to talk to. When he was a car salesman, he knew everything about the car before selling them.

Finally, he mentioned about emotional bank account (as coined by Steve Covey?). He said his work takes toll on his wife, thus he always treats her nicely in order to balance the account. When their child was young, his wife never had to get up for a single night for the crying baby. It was always him who got up. How marvelous this is. What a giving person! I realize the greatness in a person is how much he is willing to give. Nguyen gave it all.
